Pressure Washing Artificial Grass

Cleaning Artificial Turf with a Pressure Washer

Pressure washing artificial grass? What you need to know about keeping your artificial grass clean so it lasts a long time. If  you are a lover of artificial turf then that still needs some care and maintenance to keep it looking fresh. Just because it’s artificial doesn’t mean it won’t require time and attention.

Stain Management for Artificial Grass

Unlike real grass, where food, pet, or oil stains would eventually grow out or mown away, spills and stains in artificial grass need to be resolved in order to maintain the quality look and feel of your artificial turf. Here is a before photo showing an artificial turf surface that is in some need of deep cleaning.

After removing the worst of the debris from the grass, it was time to put to good use a mobile Nilfisk Pressure Washers. They are available for hire from John Syme & Co Ltd for immediate delivery throughout Central Scotland.

Pressure Washer Hire Scotland

The approach taken when cleaning artificial grass with a pressure washer is to wash the turf with cool, clean water.

Once that task was complete all that was left to do was brush the artificial grass against the grain, especially in the high-traffic areas. Cross brushing against the grain helped the grass avoid becoming matted and keeps it looking strong and fresh.

Using a pressure washer will de-compact the original infill and completely flushes out old smelly contaminants.

As the high pressure water shoots directly into the turf using a surface sweeper, the water bounces off the backing allowing a complete flushing of the infill which is commonly affected by compacted debris.

Loosening this debris that is packed between the micro-scopic spaces between the infill with your high pressure washer  allows for the artificial turf system to essentially breath.  Keep the wide angle tipped tool at least one foot from the surface and set to spray.

If you have large areas of artificial turf then regular pressure washer maintenance like this will help your turf last anywhere between 15 to 25 years, depending on its use.

And following the proven routine of keeping the grass clean with regularly washing and some cross brushing is going to see your artificial turf achieve a long, useful lifespan.
